Organic beads
It was believed that the first beads were crafted from small seeds or tiny pieces of shell. This kind of ornament is called organic because they are from living things. The organic beads include pearl beads, wood beads, shell beads, bone beads, horn beads and so on.
Shell beads are sourced from oceans. The most common shells are sea shells and mother of pearl. The snail-shell of see shell and surfaces of mother of pearl are materials for making shell beads. Both shells could be bleached or dyed into different colors to make colorful shell beads. Bone and horn beads are gathered from animals like cows and sheep. Beads made from these materials are usually hand carved. Pearl beads are formed by mollusks. Pearl beads are familiar by people, which could be cultured.
Nowadays, organic beads are used for decoration. The organic beads embody creativity, meaning and color. Even though the tremendous variety of beads available today in different materials, shapes and colors, our beads evolution continues to fulfill our desire for adornment.
