They have the most beautiful, most intense and most radiant green that can possibly be imagined: emerald green. Inclusions are tolerated. In top quality, fine emeralds are even more valuable than diamonds.

The name emerald comes from the Greek ‘smaragdos’ via the Old French ‘esmeralde’, and really just means ‘green gemstone’. Innumerable fantastic stories have grown up around this magnificent gem. The Incas and Aztecs of South America, where the best emeralds are still found today, regarded the emerald as a holy gemstone. However, probably the oldest known finds were once made near the Red Sea in Egypt. Having said that, these gemstone mines, already exploited by Egyptian pharaohs between 3000 and 1500 B.C. and later referred to as ‘Cleopatra’s Mines’, had already been exhausted by the time they were rediscovered in the early 19th century.

Why People Wear Silver Jewelry

June 14th, 2010 900jewelry No comments
Silver jewelry is widely worn today for a lot of reasons. now days lots of online wholesale jewelry offer nice quality silver jewelry on wholesale price.Below listed for A number of the reasons why people like silver jewelry

1. A nice alternative to gold: Everyone knows that silver & gold are pricey precious stones but that silver is cheaper than gold, however the expensiveness of both precious stones puts their value at the same level. So if a material is not gold, the next query that comes to mind is Is it silver?. That is why lots of individuals wear silver as an alternative to gold. A number of these individuals may possess gold jewelry but would need a alter from time to time, & so they were silver or other precious stones like diamond, etc. but some basically cannot afford gold at that point in time & so they go for silver.

2. Color combination: Sometimes when one considers a nice combination for what he is wearing, a silver jewelry will be more suitable than gold or other types of jewelry.

3. A nice number of religious jewelry like Jesus dying on the cross, the Virgin Mary carrying Jesus, the rosary, the chaplet, the finger rosary, etc. usually come in silver & lots of people like to express their religious beliefs through those religious jewelry.

4. Apart from being more affordable than gold or other precious stones like platinum or diamond, silver comes in a variety of forms. More forms than other stones. For instance, in lots of offices, the furniture are lined with more silver coating than gold. Lots of cell phone linings are silver; automobile door handles, etc are also lined with silver. Because individuals usually prefer to have a lot of things to chose from, silver jewelry is probably sold over gold. Read more…

Rhinestone And Rhinestone Beads

June 11th, 2010 900jewelry 1 comment

jewelryfla0265q Rhinestone And Rhinestone BeadsA rhinestone or paste or diamante is a diamond simulant made from rock crystal, glass or acrylic.

Originally, rhinestones were rock crystals gathered from the river Rhine. The availability was greatly increased when around 1775 the Alsatian jeweller Georg Friedrich Strass had the idea to imitate diamonds by coating the lower side of glass with metal powder. Hence, rhinestones are called Strass in many European languages.

Rhinestones may be used as imitations of diamonds, and some manufacturers even manage to reproduce the glistening effect real diamonds have in the sun.

In 1955, the Aurora Borealis or Aqua aura, a thin, vacuum-sputtered metallic coating applied to crystal stones to produce an iridescent effect, was introduced. Aurora Borealis tends to reflect whatever color is worn near it, and it is named after the Aurora Borealis atmospheric phenomenon, also known as the “Northern Lights”.

Typically, crystal rhinestones have been used on costumes, apparel and jewelry. Crystal rhinestones are produced mainly in Austria by Swarovski and in the Czech Republic by Preciosa and a few other glass works in northern Bohemia. In the US, these are sometimes called Austrian Crystal.

Rhinestone Beads – add more sparkle to your designs. Our beautiful rhinestone beads, rondelles and spacers feature high quality crystals. You’ll love the shine and shimmer you get by adding even a few rhinestone beads to your designs.

gemstone254f5bf905e86007213e26b78e5a63ba image 250x2501 Obsidian Gemstone

Overview

Obsidian is a naturally occurring very dark glass that is sometimes called a mineral. Obsidian is produced from erupting volcanoes when the right conditions are present. Obsidian is said to help balance the left and right hemispheres of the brain. Obsidian is found in North America, Italy, Scotland, and other countries. Obsidian was highly valued in ancient times and was often used as points for blades and weapons.

About the Stone

Obsidian sits at a 5-5.5 on the Mohs scale of hardness. Obsidian is created when lava erupts from a volcano, but only when certain conditions are met:

  1. There needs to be a large amount of silica in the environment (this accounts for 70% of obsidian’s composition)
  2. The lava must cool rapidly , freezing before in it has time for crystal growth.

Pure obsidian is dark, but impurities usually result in dark green, brown, black, and gray coloring. Other impurities result in stones known as snowflake obsidian, golden obsidian, apache tears, and rainbow obsidian.

Obsidian is found in many places in North America, Armenia, Italy, Mexico, Greece, and Scotland. Read more…

Look for Vintage Fine Jewelry

June 10th, 2010 900jewelry No comments

jewelry729b2a6b09f3e9193ca3db8db2e0bb86 image 250x250 Look for Vintage Fine Jewelry

If you are on the hunt for vintage fine jewelry, there are a few things that you are going to want to be aware of first. Buying vintage jewelry is very different from buying other types of jewelry after all, and so you are going to want to make sure that you get it done right. So if you are going to buy a fine jewelry watch that is vintage or any other piece of vintage fine jewelry, here are a few things that you are going to want to keep in mind.

What to Look for

There are always a few specific things that you want to look for whenever you are looking for any type of jewelry, and the same goes for vintage fine jewelry. When you are shopping for vintage fine jewelry, one of the most important things to remember is that almost always, the older the piece, the more valuable it is going to be.

This is really going to be important for you to remember because then you are going to be able to better appropriate prices with pieces, and know when you are getting a great deal and when you are getting ripped off. If you do not know this then you are likely to head out and get taken advantage of pretty easily.

You also have to make sure that you look for unique qualities in jewelry when you are shopping for vintage jewelry. This is what really sets these pieces apart and what you are going to want to look for when you are out there shopping for this type of jewelry.

Looking for quality is also very important when you are shopping for vintage fine jewelry. Just because you want to find pieces that are old, this doesn’t mean that buying a piece of junk is what you want to do here. If you find a bargain piece you may think that you have found yourself a great deal when in reality, you are not going to be spending your money wisely unless you are buying vintage jewelry of quality purposely.

It is not worth the money, even if you think that you are getting the piece for a great price, if it is just a piece of junk. Watch for value and know that different sellers are going to have different prices, so if you want to get a quality piece for a decent price, you are going to have to do some shopping around
