Coral is a gem that is not a stone but fossil. it is found in the sea. There are coral islands in many parts of the seas. We find this gem quality coral from the coral islands in shape of trees.
People love to use coral in Jewelry because of its vivid red color. It is also found in white color. Of course, white corals are less expensive.
Coral is rich in calcium and used for traiting patients with calcium defficiency.
Shaping,Cutting and Polishing of Coral
Generally, transparent gemstones are faceted and polished into cut stones.Coral is an opaque gem. It is never found as transparent. Hence, coral is always cut into cabochons and beads. some times it is also carved.
Big sized coral cabochons are used to make rings, pendants etc. Small sized ones are studded into ornaments with some other gemstones or diamonds.
Coral beads are used for stringing and making beaded jewelry. There are beautiful carvings in coral and those are also used in making fancy Jewelry.People often use coral figures as decorative.
